This Week's Bounty*:

green onions
peppers, hot & sweet
summer squash

* Saturday and Wednesday shares may differ slightly week-to-week, though we do everything we can to make them equal over the season.
chopped salad with feta

3C chopped, crunchy vegetables
1/2C  crumbled feta
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1/3 C toasted sunflower seeds
2Tbsp lime juice
2Tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp coarse salt
1/4 tsp chile powder
 black pepper, to taste
1 to 2 Tbsp thinly sliced fresh mint leaves

Mix the vegetables (which can include everything from radishes to cucumbers, carrots to green beans), feta, scallions, seeds and mint in a medium bowl. Whisk lime juice, olive oil, salt, spice and black pepper in a small dish and pour over vegetables, tossing to evenly coat. Adjust with more salt or pepper as needed. Garnish with mint and crunch-crunch-crunch away!

the week in review

As farmers, we are always navigating a relationship with the elements.  We experienced that dynamic this last week through hazy eyes and tired bodies as the heat continued to build and the rains continued to steer North and East of the farm.  And yet.

The last week has been filled with little celebrations of the cyclical milestones we look forward to each year.  We finished pulling all of the garlic (check out the upper level of the distribution barn to see it hanging beautifully as it cures), picked the first cucumbers and peppers for the shares, saw melons and winter squash beginning to size up (there are some softball sized fruits out there!), and seeded the beginning successions of Fall crops (beets, carrots, daikon, Napa cabbage, turnips and more).   Tuesday morning we had a sunrise stir of horn silica that we sprayed on our developing plants and ripening fruits.

And on Wednesday evening it rained.  And rained.  A true seeping rain that brought such relief to our fields.  And our farmers! This season's journey continues as we shift our attention to the upcoming (though still a little while off) Fall transition.  We're so glad you're a part of the adventure.

Member Volunteers!
Please get in the habit of recording your volunteer hours at the farm.  We have a space to do so in the distribution area.

We welcome - and encourage! - your help on Wednesdays and Saturdays for harvest mornings (8-noon).  Also, we'd love your kitchen scraps for our compost piles.  Feel free to bring them in and add them to the farm fertility!
