Massaman Curry with Broccoli and Eggplant

1 can coconut milk
1/4C curry paste
1 pound long eggplant, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 medium potato, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
2 Tbsp brown sugar
3Tbsp fish sauce (optional)
1 head broccoli, chopped
2 Tbsp lime juice
Handful fresh basil leaves
jasmine rice, cooked

Use a spoon to remove 1/2C of the cream at the top of the coconut milk can. Heat cream in a wok over medium-high heat until bubbling. Add curry paste, stir constantly, and cook for about 5 minutes.

Add the chopped eggplant and potatoes and stir well to coat in the paste. Cook until eggplant starts to soften, two to three minutes.

Add sugar, fish sauce, and remaining coconut milk, and add enough water to barely cover the vegetables, about 1 cup. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are tender, ten to fifteen minutes.

Add broccoli, stir well, and simmer until tender but still crisp, three to five minutes. Pour in lime juice and season to taste with salt or more fish sauce if desired. Stir in basil and serve curry with rice.

the fall festival
The markers of the new season are all here: cooler nights, increased starch cravings, and a gigantic harvest of the farm's Winter squash on Tuesday.  The farm has another tradition to mark the waning days of the season while celebrating the abundance of the fields.  On Saturday, October 1st, we are holding our Fall Festival.  Farm members, their family, and friends are invited to a homegrown party with games, food, music, and community.
Here's what we have planned so far (we are always excited to have inspired people contribute their own ideas to the evening):
Kids Games  begin between 4:30 and 5   We've had everything from bobbing for apples to Ruth's incredible field maze.
Potluck begins at 5:30 or 6, whenever our stomachs get to rumblin! Please bring a dish to pass and plates/silverware for you and your guests. Our potlucks are ALWAYS epic.  Paul & Anne will supply the earth oven pizzas.  If you'd like to sign up for a dish, please see the white board in the distribution area. (But you're welcome to just surprise us!)
Dessert Competition Each year, people submit their sweet treats to be judged (and enjoyed) in a number of categories.  A super fun event not to be missed! (And, don't worry, everyone gets to dine on them eventually)
Bonfire If the night allows, we can cozy up by the fire.
Talent Show Anyone who has come to the festival over the last couple of years knows that this is a pretty special (and low-key) event! Each participant gets 5 -10 minutes to share with the group. Sing a song, tell a joke, read a poem, lead a dance, whatever inspires you.  Sign up in the distribution area or the night of!

We hope you'll be part of this very special evening!
