Have those hot dry days of Summer already escaped from your memory?  The cold wet weather moving through Southern Michigan currently is ushering us into soup season! There's still time to embrace those Summer flavors and ladle up some minestrone or roasted red pepper deliciousness.  But rumor has it that a frost has already reached Northern Michigan, and it typically isn't more than 2 weeks later that it comes our way.  So if you haven't yet made your big batch of baba ganoush or properly savored the flavors of cherry tomatoes, you still have a small window to do so.
Maybe you're already craving cream of broccoli, leek potato, or curried squash soups.  In which case, you are in luck!  We are entering into a season of starchy and sweet abundance.  Our Winter squash harvest was fantastic! Rutabagas and beets are growing fat in the fields.  The cauliflower are beginning to show their faces. Soon, we'll bring in what we anticipate to be a great bounty of sweet potatoes.
With the exception of garlic planting (which we have begun this week), a majority of the remaining farm work is harvesting the fruits of the season's labor - and mother earth's incredible generosity.  This culminates in our last CSA distribution - a day of great celebration and abundance: the Grand Finale, scheduled for Sunday, November 6th, from noon to 4pm.  Please keep an eye out for more information about this event, including tips for storing  and enjoying your produce well into the Winter.
In the meantime, cozy up, and share your favorite soup recipes with us!
