Hello Dear Friends

Hope all is well with you. In this season of hurricanes, fires, earthquakes,  and political unrest, we are blest to be enjoying this fine fall season.  This is such a favorite time of year with cooler weather and beautiful changing nature all around.  Sadly at times we fail to appreciate and take our good weather for granted.  Homeless people do not, as they live without shelter in most cases, and are out in the weather.  Being homeless is overwhelming and difficult.  I'm thankful that River Valley Christian Life Corp is trying to help and make a difference in their lives.

I mentioned to you in the last e-mail that we are now seeing people at the Grand Avenue Helping Hand Building on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 1:00.   The first day we were there, God brought in a young man.  He was carrying a plastic bag with few clothes and belongings.  He asked if we by any chance had a cloth bag he could have.  We did not have one there but Joyce and I remembered there was a backpack at the office.  Amanda was able to bring it over to Helping Hand and we gave it to this young man.  We called Steve, our only male mentor and invited this guy to make arrangements to meet with him.  That was two weeks ago and this is what he shared with me:  “Most people have no clue about being homeless.  They have no idea why we are walking the street and they don't know what led us to this lifestyle.  Doing drugs for five years led to me becoming homeless a year and a half ago.  It has just been two weeks since I found out about River Valley Christian Life Corps and my life has change dramatically.  I've been blessed with a mentor, a bike, a job, happiness, and temporary shelter.  I'm thinking if so many positive things are happening to me in such a short time, I cannot imagine what my life will be like in a year’s time.”

We are blessed to be a resource in this community to include homeless people.  Most importantly, we get to be Christ’s hands and feet as we help not only with spiritual needs but also physical needs.  It is a joy to see people get jobs, transportation and shelter but the greater joy is to see them give God the glory for the good, positive changes they are experiencing.

Please continue to pray for this ministry.  God is faithful to us and we are very grateful.  We are always in need of financial donations and are desperate for men mentors.  Female mentors are needed also.  We will be facilitating Mentor training in October, and will include that information below.

God bless and for His Glory,

Linda P.
