BPCA celebrates Juneteenth with special guests and great music!
Juneteenth Annual Celebration 2020
We’re still celebrating Freedom for All!
Battery Park City’s annual Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, celebration in the park is presented virtually this year to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Share in traditional Juneteenth festivities with stories, special food, Black Cowboys and rodeo, a reading list of wonderful books, and have fun with your friends and family.
Artist Mildred Howard and the Federation of Black Cowboys share stories about family Juneteenth Celebrations, what Juneteenth means in American history, and the importance of freedom. Make your own Juneteenth Flag and Red Lemonade to celebrate this American holiday!
Virtual Juneteenth Part 1: History & Storytelling
We’re On Our Way to Freedomland.
We usually enjoy a Juneteenth concert in the park with music and singing together. This year, the musicians pre-recorded their performances of songs about slavery and freedom.
Some of these same songs were sung for generations by enslaved Africans and by freedom fighters in the American Civil Rights movement.
Five talented musicians perform music in honor of Juneteenth music: Michael Hill plays his premier of “Juneteenth” composed for the 2020 celebration; Lisette Santiago, Jerry Dugger, Kevin Hill, and Junior Mack perform spirituals, Gospel, and Blues.
