On March 12, all Lake Worth residents will have the opportunity to vote on two very important decisions for the City. It is important that you understand both of these ballot questions so you can make an informed decision and do your part to shape the future of Lake Worth.

Question 1

IN ORDER TO DISTINGUISH ITSELF FROM SURROUNDING UNINCORPORATED AREAS, SHALL ARTICLE I, SECTION 1 OF THE CITY OF LAKE WORTH CHARTER ENTITLED “CITY CREATED” BE AMENDED TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE CITY FROM THE “CITY OF LAKE WORTH” TO THE “CITY OF LAKE WORTH BEACH?”

  • Changing the name will help direct visitors to our city when searching the internet for a beach location in Florida.
  • A clear delineation from the unincorporated part of palm beach county. Currently a large portion of unincorporated Palm Beach County is described as Lake Worth which causes confusion and can hurt the City during important discussions such as the study of crime statistics.
  • We’re already a “beach” city, people from allover come to use our “beach” because Royal Palm Beach doesn’t have a beach, West Palm Beach doesn’t have a beach, Palm Beach Gardens doesn’t have a beach but we, the City of Lake Worth, have a truly great beach. This will give us a chance to let the world know.

Question 2

IN ORDER TO IMPROVE DOWNTOWN INFRASTRUCTURE AND ENHANCE RE-DEVELOPMENT, SHALL THE CITY OF LAKE WORTH BE AUTHORIZED TO SELL CITY PROPERTY AT 501 LAKE AVENUE IN DOWNTOWN LAKE WORTH WITH ALL PROCEEDS USED EXCLUSIVELY WITHIN DOWNTOWN LAKE WORTH?

  • The City will benefit from additional parking. An increase in parking will encourage more people to visit the downtown and enjoy the downtown businesses.
  • The proceeds of this sale can only be used within the downtown area. This means that the valuable property will not only provide annual property tax income to the City but any money made during the sale will be used to improve our downtown and provide more opportunities for all residents to enjoy Lake Worth Living.
  • The building has been underutilized for a long time. It provides little benefit to the City to keep an unnecessary building which has ongoing maintenance costs but adds little to the area.
