Dear Friends,

Today in Rome, the Vatican has started its four-day meeting on the sexual abuse scandal titled, "The Protection of Minors in the Church." In similar fashion to a novena, we invite you to pray with us for each of the four days using the framework that Stephanie Clouatre Davis and I created in our Let Us Cry Together series.

Like the four-day meeting, our series also has four parts, so we will be praying each of the four days for:

  • Those Who Were Abused
  • The Loved Ones of Those Who Were Abused
  • Our Church
  • The Body of Christ

Pray With Us
Join us on the first day in praying for those who were abused. Pray with the full guided audio reflection here or simply join us in the prayer below:

My God,
I pause to invite stillness and silence into my heart.
I make room in my heart today to hold those who have been abused by clergy.
I cry out to You on their behalf.

My heart cries out in angst for the reopening and deepening of the wounds of the abused as Church leaders gather at the Vatican today.
I pray that the leaders may also hold those abused in their hearts as they listen, learn, pray, and discern what actions must be taken.

I pray in confidence that You have not and will not abandon those who have been abused. May they be filled with Your peace and be made whole again.

I cry out with
Psalm 136 (1-4, 24-26):
  Praise the LORD, for he is good
    for his love endures forever;
  Praise the God of gods;

    for his love endures forever;
  Praise the Lord of lords;

for his love endures forever;
  Who alone has done great wonders;

for his love endures forever;
  The Lord remembered us in our low estate,

for his love endures forever;
  Freed us from our foes,

for his love endures forever;
  And gives bread to all flesh,

for his love endures forever;
  Praise the God of heaven,

for his love endures forever.

AMEN.
