BREAST CANCER DETECTION CENTER OF ALASKA

 MONTHLY BUZZ

 Thank You Rasmuson Foundation!

Rebecca Brice Henderson (left) with The Rasmuson Foundation presents a $300,000.00 check to The Breast Cancer Detection Center staff and board members .

BCDC recently received a grant from The Rasmuson Foundation, helping make it possible for our clinic to receive some much needed upgrades! These upgrades will result in a more inviting and relaxing environment for women to get their mammograms.

Along with bringing patient services closer to the front of the building, our new clinic will also be more "Zen-ful”, with a fireplace, learning center and a cozy space for meetings and events.

We also believe the upgrades will help us bring in more people who normally wouldn’t come to BCDC. The more people who come to BCDC, the more funds we are able to generate to help support BCDC programs like Mammo Assist, the program that helps women who may not be able to afford a mammogram, receive one.  Thank you to Rasmuson and everyone else who is making this renovation possible!
North Pole Middle School's Champions for Charity
North Pole Middle School's Champions for Charity is a month long fundraising competition between teams of staff and 7th & 8th grade students. Each team chooses a charity to raise money for. This year, the Dodgernauts chose BCDC, thank you Dodgernauts! As of 2017 over $41,500 has been donated to various charities...WOW!

BCDC BOARD MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Ellen Lopez
Vice President
 Board Member since:
2014

 I choose BCDC because:

My work and personal goals focus on enhancing quality of life for cancer survivors.  Early detection, for everyone, is a means towards improving quality of health and life.

 Occupation and other community involvement:
I am an assistant professor at UAF.  I also volunteer with the Fairbanks Native Association on providing a survivorship support program for Alaska Native cancer survivors and loved ones (Hopeful Connections)

 Away from BCDC I enjoy
Spending time, doing anything, with my husband (Andres), my son (Alejo) and our pets (Loki and Moosie)

If I could spend a week anywhere in the world, it would it be:
At home!  We work so much, I just want to relax and be home with my family!  If we were to travel for a week, I'd love to hike the Chilkoot trail!

Big Upgrades Coming for BCDC Patients
Beginning January 15th, BCDC will be remodeling our office!   The renovations are scheduled to be completed in the fall.  Due to construction for a few months, we will be receiving patients at the back of our building.  Please watch for signs to indicate parking and the temporary entrance.  Thank you for your patience and support!
