ESDN Older Adults Webinar

European Specialist Dietetic Network (ESDN) Older Adults will be hosting a webinar split into two parts on 4 June at 7pm (CEST).
  1. The first half will hosted by Dr Amalia Tsagari and aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for clinical nutrition in older adults in acute care hospitals. 
  2. The second half will be hosted by Dr Dilek Ongan who will discuss the need to screen the nutritional status of institutionalised older adults to prevent and detect malnutrition,

Nutrition and Diet apps survey

The University of Bern has launched a survey about the perspectives of Healthcare Professionals regarding Nutrition and Diet apps, and would like you to participate. Survey results will be presented at the EFAD Conference on 1-2 November in Berlin. Take the survey.

EFAD Conference

The 2019 EFAD Conference takes place in Berlin on 1-2 November, so if it's not already in your diaries please save the date! Pre-conference events and workshops will be taking place from 31 October. The conference will feature a range of excellent sessions on the health benefits of plant-based eating, how ESPEN is working with EFAD, and malnutrition and dietary treatment in older adults. EFAD Conference preview

The Flemish Dietetic Association Belgium (VBVD) will present at the EFAD Conference in November. They will discuss an insightful case study on how the Belgium health care system previously did not provide reimbursement for obese and overweight people for treatment with a dietitian and the lobbying that the VBVD undertook in order to achieve change. New EU regulations on trans fat

The European Commission has adopted a new regulation on the amount of industrially produced trans fat in all foods sold to EU consumers. The limit is set to 2 grams of industrially produced trans fats per 100 grams of fat in food intended for the supply of retail. This must be complied with by 2 April 2021. Find out more.

EU and my food

The European Food Standards Agency have produced a new video highlighting the process of ensuring that all EU food is safe. The campaign #EUandMyFood will inform the public of the assessments on food ingredients, processes and packaging and ensure that nutrition and health claims are evidence-based. Unhealthy diet results in 11m premature deaths per year

A new Lancet article has found that one in five deaths worldwide in 2017 were related to poor diet. Researchers found that a high intake of sodium, low intake of wholegrains and fruits were the leading dietary risks for diet-related deaths. Read the research in full.

Breastfeeding protects against childhood obesity

A new study from WHO/Europe has found that babies who have never or only infrequently been breastfed have an increased risk of becoming obese as children. See more about the findings.

ICD 2020 in Cape Town

The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is hosting the International Congress of Dietetics (ICD) in Cape Town on 15-18 September 2020. The congress will have the theme of improving nutrition, unlocking potential and accelerating change. Find out more.
