In less than a week I have to give a speech to 70+ quilters. In my mind, quilters are at the top of the sewing hierarchy. People ask me all the time if I quilt and are often surprised to learn I don't. The guild actually invited me to speak because they want to hear my entrepreneurial story.  I should mention they booked me a year ago and I am just now writing the speech. I work best under pressure. When I was employed as a newspaper writer I would always wait until the last minute to write all of my articles. Lucky for me, I consistently received positive feedback from my editor. You may have heard public speaking is the most common fear. I am no exception; however, I am hoping my time here on YouTube has expanded my speaking skills. Back in my PTO Presidential days, I would have rather died than take the podium to speak at Back to School Night and remember trembling as I stepped up to the mic and addressed hundreds of parents. This time is different because I have a backup strategy to combat my nervousness! I am just going to pretend I am talking to our beautiful Sewspire community and am fairly confident that will work better than picturing my audience naked as so many recommend. LOL. Wish me luck my friends!

XO, Andrea

P.S. Ashley will be recording the talk and we will share it with you---even if I tremble.

Summer sewing projects for kids
When working with children, the most important factor to consider is the length of their attention span. You will want to choose a project that results in a finished product they will use and be proud of. I recommend teaching children how to sew the three ring binder cover with zipper pocket or library tote bag. You can easily break each project into smaller segments for children with short attention spans.
