Embracing Your Creative Genius & Transcending Traditional Patterns

Not this past Monday; but, the one prior, Isabel and I were hanging out at the hotel swimming pool in Columbia, S.C. when a woman in her mid 60's from Louisiana struck up a conversation with me. After exchanging a few pleasantries the conversation began to take on a darker tone as she opened her heart and shared the most intimate details of her childhood with me. Otherwise a perfect stranger, I leaned in and listened very closely as we conversed compassionately for more than two hours. When she left, I realized I did not even know her name; nor did she know mine. Yet, I was profoundly touched by her honesty and rawness. Simultaneously I was struck by the realization that most people do an incredible job appearing to be "just fine" while on the inside they are in fact carrying a heavy load.

Over the years I have gotten to know several members of our community, through a consistent stream of emails and more recently our live video chats, and I am in awe of the challenges some of you are enduring and/or have overcome.

I have always held a deep knowing that creativity is fundamental to life and your story and mine are a testament to that truth. While sewing is just one of a multitude of mediums in which we can choose to create it does seem to offer meditative and healing properties based upon the testimonials of our community here at Sewspire and I am curious if you agree.
Has your life been positively impacted by the art of sewing?

If so, I would love to hear your story and share it with our community. Please send me an email explaining and I will publish that in a special edition of Behind The Seams in November 2018.

Until we meet again, know the creative genius in me will be celebrating the creative genius in you!

P.S. I am considering a new motto here at Sewspire and am curious if it resonates with you. defines Creativity as the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships and Genius is defined as a person having such capacity.

Let me know what you think of the motto: Embracing your creative genius and transcending traditional patterns.
