All Ships message from the Commodore

As midsummer’s day approaches on the 24th June 2020 and the Bavaria Owner’s Association slowly emerges from the coronavirus lockdown imposed upon the membership by the Government,  I sincerely hope that our membership affected by the difficulties of recent months recover well and will soon be able to enjoy the remaining weeks of this summer on their yachts.

All previous club notices, emails and circulars relating to the coronavirus will now be superseded by today's notice.  Following the recent policy changes issued by the Government, DEFRA, RYA and of course marina management of various UK ports we are again permitted to use our Bavaria Yachts in accordance with the published guidelines. A clear authorization is still awaited concerning the use of leisure craft from various port authorities, but it is understood that, in line with marine businesses that are allowing customers access to their boats, there is some relaxation to allow careful access and maintenance of our yachts. This is permitted provided that social distancing is maintained and that couples who normally live together with their family limit their crew activities in accordance with Government Guidelines. Accordingly pontoons, grids, compounds, clubhouse, and marina facilities with their attached conveniences, now publicized as operational, can be used by BOA members in accordance with the various published Government guidance on Covid-19 precautions.

For the time being it is not possible for the BOA committee to recommence our rally programme until the selected venues feel able to allow groups of yachts to visit. This is not anticipated to happen during the height of summer of 2020 but may be possible later.  It is understood that the Island Sailing Club is still intending to hold the annual Round the Island Race, but this time it will be held in the last week in September. It is unlikely that participants will be able to enjoy the normal post-race “Extravaganza” in Cowes, and mooring will be strictly limited with rafting outlawed I suspect.  I expect the results will only be viewable online.  Bavaria Owners usually have a fair contingent of entries in this event, so hopefully we will be able to enjoy each other’s company this year at a distance of course.

I am aware that a number of our members have now had the opportunity to antifoul their yachts recently, and hopefully we will be able to meet on the water over the next few weeks for a cruise in company.

Good sailing and good health

Adrian Parker
