4 Outreach Events hosted in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada
Dreams Soar was honored to be a part of the Irving Oil company’s second annual “Inspiration Day” on June 6th at their headquarters in St John, New Brunswick, Canada. Irving Oil has been focusing on diversity and inclusion over the last two years, and this event was sponsored by three of their employee resource groups: E3 (Empower, Enable and Engage), which focuses on advancing women in the organization; eMERGe (Millennial Employee Resource Group); and inSPIRE (Parity, Inclusion, Resources & Empowerment). In addition to being the Keynote Speaker at this event, Shaesta also visited with three local schools that Irving Oil partners with and provides support to through their community engagement program. Shaesta spoke to over 700 children in total at these three elementary schools: Bayview Elementary, Champlain Heights, and St John the Baptist King Edward. Our thanks go out to the Irving family and to Chris Taylor and Tara Hamel-Barry, for their ongoing support to Dreams Soar, and for everything Irving Oil is doing for their employees and for the community.
Royal Institute of Navigation Award Presented to Shaesta Waiz in London
The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) in London is a professional organization “committed to furthering the development of navigational science, technology and practice, and to increasing public awareness of the art and science of navigation.” At their Annual General Meeting on July 10th, the RIN awarded Shaesta a Certificate of Achievement “in recognition of her achievement flying around the world solo, and inspiring girls so that they can become pilots and STEM professionals.” In addition, Shaesta was given the honor of handing out all of the other awards that day, as the patron who has done this for years couldn’t attend, and that patron is His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth’s husband! Dreams Soar at the Royal Aeronautical Society "Cool Aeronautics" Event
The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) in London hosts a series of events throughout the year called “Cool Aeronautics”. This primary (elementary) school outreach program introduces children to the fascinating world and people of flying, aerospace engineering, and space. These events represent a crucial part of the RAeS’s
efforts to provide a “through-life” approach to its outreach and careers activities. Shaesta was one of three guests at their special event on July 9th, along with author and journalist Sarah Cruddas and easyJet pilot Captain Marnie Munns. Special thanks to Rosalind Azouzi, Head of Skills and Careers at the RAeS, for all of her support to Shaesta and Dreams Soar since the start of our Global Flight for STEM! You can read more about the Cool Aeronautics program here.

Amelia Earhart Festival, July 20-21, 2018
This year’s Amelia Earhart Festival in Atchison, KS (Amelia’s hometown) occurs on July 21st at Benedictine College. There are two special events this year involving Dreams Soar! The main event is the historic “Chasing Earhart Panel”, the largest panel ever gathered to discuss Amelia’s life and theories on her disappearance. Shaesta will be part of that panel to discuss how Amelia influenced her own life and also how Amelia started promoting STEM back in the 1930s. Shaesta will also be part of the Speakers Symposium along with Jessica Cox, the world’s first armless pilot, and Abigail “Astronaut Abby”, founder of The Mars Generation. More information on the Chasing Earhart Project, along with a link to obtain tickets to the panel, can be found here.
