Introducing the York Region Innovation and Entrepreneur Events Calendar (MVP / beta)

Each month, this newsletter has been featuring upcoming events that focus on innovators and entrepreneurs.  The problem is, people have read the newsletter and found some interesting events, but not had time to enter the events into their calendars (realistically, it's work that isn't near the top of your priority list), so they don't go - and if they don't go, the value of this newsletter diminishes greatly.

And this makes us sad.

So with this problem statement, we wanted to experiment with a MVP calendar that allows you to subscribe to a calendar containing upcoming events, so that those events appear in your calendar with minimal work on your part.  You can subscribe by following these instructions:

Please note, these instructions are to subscribe to the Google Calendar - instructions to extend this to your phone will vary by phone, so please lean on Google to help you with that extra step.

And if you do subscribe, please let us know what you think - we'd love the feedback!  But remember it's an MVP - it ain't pretty, and it's more of a trial-and-validate thing for now....

Showcase Your Innovation at Illuminate Barrie

The Illuminate Barrie Festival is the culmination of the Barrie’s Canada 150 initiatives.  The 2-day festival on Labour Day long weekend is themed as a casual backyard party, and features an "Innovation Alley" showcase for innovators in tech and other industries in the middle of the merchant market.  Vendors in Innovation Alley thus far range from an augmented marketing firm to a company who makes a multitude of items (from sunglasses to bicycles) all out of bamboo.

Exhibitors will have a 10' by 10' booth, and must bring their own table, tent and chairs.  The festival is willing to sponsor 1-2 booths for companies based in York Region.

If you are interested to learn more about exhibiting at Innovation Alley, visit the website or email Lauren Maciborka.
