Keyana worked at a non-profit in New York City for many years. The non-profit Keyana worked at was dedicated to helping previously incarcerated individuals reintegrate back into society. Keyana absolutely loved the work she did. The fact that she was able to help so many get back on their feet was such a fulfilling aspect of her life. While Keyana was living her dream in New York, she soon realized she needed to return home to Delaware.
Keyana’s mother became ill, and Keyana knew she needed to return home to help her mom. Keyana was there for her mother for many years making sure she was cared for. After a while, things took a turn for the worse, and Keyana found herself without a home, a place to keep her kids safe. While in Delaware, Keyana spent the majority of her time caring for her mother, thus she never got back into the workforce. She found herself without shelter, a job, or anyone to lean on.
When everything seemed lost and Keyana wanted to give up, she found Family Promise of Northern New Castle County.
“I wanted to give up. I really did, but I looked down at my two little ones, and something just clicked, and I knew that this wasn’t the end of the road for me. The light for me was Family Promise”.
Keyana recently began sheltering at the Hope Center. While there, Keyana began working with our Case Manager Felicia. Felicia and Keyana are doing everything they can to quickly find safe, secure, and affordable housing for Keyana and her children.
This past week, we donated a Honda Civic to Keyana. Her new car is already coming in handy as she’s using it to go to job interviews, appointments for her children, checking out apartments, and much more!
It’s Keyana’s dream to get back on her feet. Keyana wants to find a new job, doing similar work to what she was doing back in New York City – she wants to help people, because she knows what it’s like to be in a situation where you’re the one that needs help.
We humbly ask you, if you’re able to help us help Keyana.
Any donation we receive from 6pm tonight, until 6pm tomorrow will be matched by our Board and GGB Bearings.
