The Highmark Health Walk Will Be In Person This Year!

Are you ready for our first in-person event since 2019?!
  • As a part of our efforts to raise money while bringing awareness to our cause, the Northern New Castle Chapter is participating in the Highmark Health Walk!
  • The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is an annual fundraising walk that benefits local health and human service agencies. Highmark Inc. coordinates and underwrites the cost of the walk so that 100 percent of the money raised by walkers goes to the participating nonprofits.

  • The primary goal of the Walk is to help participating organizations raise money for their individual missions. The secondary goal of the Walk is to energize community members to have a greater hand in their health by becoming or staying physically active.
This event will be a great way to see staff, meet our new Executive Director, Board Members, and many other FP advocates, all in person!

Program Spotlight

Pathway to Diversion

Our Pathway to Diversion is the first program of its kind in Delaware. This innovative initiative helps families get back into stable housing by not relying solely on the shelter system. Not only is this more cost-effective, it allows families to avoid the trauma of the shelter system and regain independence faster. This program is now being replicated statewide.

Diversion is a unique program that targets families before they enter the homeless crisis situation. Our diversion program has proven to be highly effective, serving families in half the time of our other programs as it is designed to be a very short intervention.

No Child Should Ever Be Homeless
1 in 30 American Children Experience Homelessness.

They live with or without their families, in shelters, cars, and abandoned buildings. Lack of affordable housing is a primary cause of homelessness in families; often one or both parents are working, but not making a livable wage. Additionally, events such as illness, unemployment, accidents, and violence limit the ability to secure stable housing and affordable housing.

How You Can Help

Family Fact

When we think about people who are experiencing homelessness, we usually think about adults. Sadly, millions of children experience homelessness every year. Their families relocate constantly, which results in the children being pulled out of school and away from friends. Homelessness impacts children in nearly every way.
