Upcoming Film Concerts: WINTER CLIFFHANGERS (January 2016)
THE MATRIX LIVE

Winter Cliffhangers

The new year 2016 begins full of film music excitement. THE MATRIX LIVE reaches Rotterdam under the baton of no other than Don Davis, the composer this challenging score. Gothenburg welcomes the Swedish premiere of METROPOLIS, with Gottfried Huppertz's original music conducted by Frank Strobel; they welcome also THE SNOWMAN with Håkon Daniel Nystedt conducting Howard Blake's beloved composition live-to-projection. "Walking in the air" is not only the title of THE SNOWMAN's stirring song, but also what the heroes of THE WHITE HELL OF PITZ PALU and SAFETY LAST! actually do. Both films can be experienced in film concert version in Nuremberg and Berlin, respectively. Berlin audiences can also enjoy Robert Wiene's adaptation of DER ROSENKAVALIER accompained by Richard Strauss' own arrangement for chamber orchestra, and played by members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Last, not least, F.W. Murnau's horror classic NOSFERATU is reborn in Ghent and Brussels with a recent composition by Spanish composer José María Sánchez-Verdú. Frostly, but kindly, you are invited to join our FilmPhilharmonic winter!

NOTE: At the moment of writing this newsletter, we mourn the death of two great contemporary musicians. Pierre Boulez (1925-2016), one of the major figures of 20th century music, both as a conductor and as composer -not to forget that he began his career creating theater music with Maurice Jarre; and David Bowie (1947-2016), musician, actor, poet, writter of unforgettable songs for films (CAT PEOPLE, LBYRINTH) and whose music, as re-composed by Philip Glass, is the basis of our multimedia project LOW/HEROES. We will miss them.
