News from the Food & Health Network Team

Happy March everyone! As we emerge out of winter and prepare for the upcoming spring season the FaHN team is pleased to announce some exciting news! Jen Bertron, Community Collaborations Coordinator, for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier will be joining the FaHN Steering Committee. We look forward to working with Jen and know she will be a great addition to our team!

In other good news, after a successful pilot year FaHN will be expanding our Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program to reach even more participants across three counties thanks to funding through
Care Compass Network Innovation Fund awards. We're also excited to be expanding our work to support community food projects involving volunteers through another round of NYS Volunteer Generation Fund. Stay tuned for more updates on both of these programs throughout the year!

Spring is on its way and so is March's NY Thursday menu! This month's menu features local burgers with home-grown roasted potatoes, roasted carrots and beets, and a fresh apple! Check out this month's food and farm partnerMain Street Farms, Headwater Food HubCascun Farms, & Russell Farms to learn more about the local people dedicated to farm to school in your community. Also check out the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, whose partnership continues to ensure effective transportation of our farm-to-school products!

Food Policy Resources:

Walking the Path Towards Community Ownership: Lessons from the D.C. Food System: March 9, 12-1pm
People with lived experience of food insecurity are routinely excluded in the planning and execution of programs and policies intended to "serve" them. This webinar explores "Community In-reach" and "Community In-roads" as strategies for shifting power into the hands of people of color and low income residents, while building pathways for community ownership of food programs and policies.
