Hi Friends,

Graduations are wrapping up and summer is kicking off, and I have a few odds and ends to share with you!
A big shout-out to Chancellor Mark Mone and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduating class of 2016 for their video, “CAN’T STOP THE FEELING! - UW-Milwaukee Graduation Edition!”
Pop star Justin Timberlake, who released the song in 2016, retweeted the video on Monday to congratulate UWM with this kudos:
The video currently has over 225,000 views on YouTube.  Our Goal 3 volunteers are “Lovin It” – Thanks JT!

Every spring PEARLS for Teen Girls (the life-changing organization I used to lead) awards a PEARLS girl who exhibits and lives out all of the PEARLS attributes: Personal Responsibility, Empathy, Awareness, Respect, Leadership and Support. This year, Taleavia Cole won this prestigious award, by motivating her PEARLS sisters and always staying dedicated to service.

Taleavia was accepted to 26 colleges and will be attending Howard University this fall. Due to her diligent effort, Taleavia’s college tuition will be covered through scholarships! Taleavia serves as Senior Ambassador at Milwaukee Collegiate Academy and is also involved in College Possible and volunteers as a ‘Make A Difference Money Coach.’ Taleavia has been a very dedicated participant in the PEARLS College & Career Coach Program for the past two years and developed a close relationship with her mentor.  Coincidentally, her PEARLS Coach Tracy Johnson is also moving to DC, so they’ll be able to stay connected.  Taleavia’s long-term educational goal is to attend law school. I couldn’t be prouder of Ms Taleavia and am so looking forward to hearing about her college journey! Go, girl!

Finally, as our school year comes to a close, we thought it important to celebrate another successful year of Transformative Reading Instruction. Last Wednesday, May 25th, teachers, tutors, principals, coaches, and donors gathered at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to enjoy a night of food, drinks, and fun conversation.

Guests participated in an ice breaker that facilitated story sharing on topics ranging from favorite vacations to favorite sports teams. The celebration culminated in a Milwaukee Succeeds raffle for three Visa Gift Cards and a grand prize of four tickets to last weekend’s Brewer’s game, donated by Rachel Lander and Paul Treffert.  A very memorable evening with amazing food and even better company – the least we can do to express sincere appreciation for all the hard work that goes into TRI every day for our young people!

See you soon,
