Happy New Year 2018!

January is always a great time to “Set Goals!”  I hate to use the word “resolutions” because we so quickly seem to let those go, so I instead talk about goals with the students.  In Guidance this month and next I will be working with the students on setting goals: physical, relational and academic.  EACH STUDENT will be creating a “CODE OF CONDUCT” that will include his/her personal choices for improvement.

“If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”  We won’t ever achieve something new without DOING something new!!

  • Get active!  Our students spend a lot of time playing video games. We want to also make sure that intentional physical activity is part of their lives.  We see that the students who play video games daily are often the ones who struggle to focus in class.  Get up and move, even though it is cold outside!
  • Relationships are essential for character growth and social growth. Teaching our students to reach out to others creates in them a heart for others.  It is tough for children to put others ahead of themselves, so we must intentionally teach them. Our goal is that Lakeview students will all feel connected to our school community, to their classmates and to their teachers who care so much for them.
  • Academic Goals!  Our prime mandate is to guide your child to academic excellence.  We want the students to set goals and then understand that they must then WORK toward achieving that goal; it won’t happen by accident.

Please talk with your children about goal-setting.  Maybe you can set some Family Goals and chart your progress.  Modeling Goal Setting and the daily steps it takes to meet those goals will help us to partner together to develop the skill in your children.

Please let me know if I can help you in any way.
