Dear Fellow Supporters of Integrated Reporting,
One of the biggest historical challenges to sustainable investing has been the lack of high quality, standardized data on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. And while the landscape is changing, through the work of organizations including the  Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), we are still at the start of the ESG data journey.
There are a number of pioneering firms who are addressing this problem. Their methodologies vary, but what they all have in common is the ability to assemble metrics on ESG performance based on increasing levels of sustainability data in the public domain. A growing number of investors are purchasing this information and integrating it into their decisions, driving increased capital towards ESG strategies.

However, I believe the bond between the corporate responsibility movement and sustainable investment has yet to be fully made. The availability and accessibility of easy-to-use, reliable, and timely ESG data has proved a significant barrier in linking responsible businesses with responsible investors.
The launch today of Arabesque S-Ray marks a potential game-changing moment in the strengthening of that connection.  As George Kell explains in “S-ray – the power of sustainability information":
"Inspired by the impact that the X-Ray had on medicine in the early 20th century, S-Ray is the latest technology of its kind to capture vast amounts of sustainability information that now exists on companies, and make it relevant and understandable to investors and consumers. It enables a holistic view of companies over and beyond the financial bottom line, applying a values-based lens on universal principles of humanity as advocated by the United Nations Global Compact, together with a systematic assessment of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors that are financially material to corporations."
S-Ray is an unbiased diagnostic tool that allows investors – and indeed all stakeholders - to monitor the sustainability of over 4,000 of the world’s largest companies. It is designed to streamline vast amounts of ESG information into one easy-to-use, smart application, drawing on big data to evaluate companies in three ways:
GC Score, which is an assessment of each company based on the normative principles of the UN Global Compact,
ESG Score, which is a sector specific analysis of each company’s aggregate performance on ESG issues.
Preferences Filter, which is a search tool that allows anyone to check how a company’s business involvements are aligned with their own values.
In becoming Chairman of Arabesque Partners nearly two years ago, I was drawn by the fundamental mission of the firm’s founders – to take sustainable investment fully into the mainstream. The launch today of S-Ray is a key part of that vision.
I hope you have a chance to explore our new technology, and that you will find a use for it, whatever your own mission.
  Kind regards,
