May Newsletter
The National Down Syndrome Society
Not only is it Friday, but it's May 1! Our team has been working tirelessly through the month of April to ensure our community has the resources and support they need during this pandemic. It’s making a difference, you can help!

This newsletter features a true happy ending story, as well as updates on important NDSS events and activities. Thank you for being part of our NDSS family. Your support makes it all possible.
"My family is so grateful you responded. We felt heard when no one was listening"
Amanda's family reached out to NDSS after she was diagnosed with COVID-19 last month. With a no-visitor policy in place, Amanda was in isolation at the hospital without a family member or caregiver. She was alone and incredibly confused in trying to battle this disease without her support network. NDSS was able to gather the necessary information and referrals to help guide Amanda's family through this process, and within a week Amanda's sister was given approval to join her in the hospital. We are thrilled to share that Amanda was discharged from the hospital and is back at home!
In working with the family, NDSS created a resource providing guidance for when an individual with Down syndrome has been hospitalized and the hospital will not allow visitors. The resource is now available online for all families.

Advocacy Alert!
  • Ask your Representative to cosponsor and include H.R. 6420, the All Dependent Children Count Act, in the next COVID-19 spending package! This bill will address the lack of financial relief for eligible individuals who are claimed as dependents under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
