Harry Potter: Nineteen Years Later

Celebrate the inception and the epilogue of Harry Potter at this after-hours event at your Anderson Public Library.

Registration required.

Register before August 21 to receive a special invitation.

2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The Boy Who Lived and Dumbledore’s Army defeated Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters in the summer of 1998. Now, 19 years later, Harry and Ginny’s youngest son, Albus, is starting at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on September 1.

Join us on Platform 9¾ for a magical evening!

MyPlate

When: Wednesday, September 06, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Where: Anderson Public Library at Cardinal Room

Want a simple way to know what you should be eating? Meet MyPlate. It explains the five food groups and the right mix of each. It’s a helpful eating style to keep you healthy now and in the future. Melanie Dunn, Nutrition Education Program Assistant at the Madison County Purdue Extension, will help you learn how to build a healthy plate and provide ideas for quick, nutritious snacks and meals.


Teen Game Night

When: Wednesday, September 06, 2017 - 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Where: Anderson Public Library at Cardinal Room

Drop in for an evening of video and tabletop gaming. We'll have party games like Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, and Rocket League for the Wii and PS4, as well as classics like Apples to Apples, Jenga, and Uno. Teen programs are for those in grades 6-12 only, please.


Homeschool Connection: Art and Creativity (6-12 years)

When: Thursday, September 07, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Where: Anderson Public Library at Cardinal Room

Come make art with other homeschool friends! We will play some drawing games and make paper sculptures.

History on Wheels, a new traveling exhibit from the Indiana Historical Society housed in a 53-foot double expandable semi-trailer, will be on display outside of the library. Aboard History on Wheels, IHS's Auto Indiana exhibit will take guests through Indiana's rich automotive and racing history. Auto Indiana touches on the history of more than 100 Indiana automakers and manufactures, such as Duesenberg, Gibson and Studebaker. The exhibit also devles into Anderson's connection to Delco-Remy. The exhibit will be open September 11, 12, and 13 from 9:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. The exhibit is also free and open to the public. No registration required.


Boogie Woogie Babies

Where: Anderson Public Library at Cardinal Room

Boogie on down to the library! Introduce your little one to early literacy experiences with books, rhymes, and songs.


Game Night for Grownups: Forbidden Island/Forbidden Desert

When: Monday, September 11, 2017 - 5:00 PM - 7:45 PM
Where: Anderson Public Library at Cardinal Room

A monthly gaming group at the library for adults only! We meet on the second Monday each month. We will teach the featured game(s) of the month but you are welcome to bring your own games, too! Beginners welcome!

The games this month:

Dare to discover FORBIDDEN ISLAND! Join a team of fearless adventurers on a do-or-die mission to capture four sacred treasures from the ruins of this perilous paradise. Your team will have to work together and make some pulse-pounding maneuvers, as the island will sink beneath every step! Race to collect the treasures and make a triumphant escape before you are swallowed into the watery abyss!

Or...gear up for a thrilling adventure to recover a legendary flying machine buried deep in the ruins of an ancient desert city. You'll need to coordinate with your teammates and use every available resource if you hope to survive the scorching heat and relentless sandstorm. Find the flying machine and escape before you all become permanent artifacts of the FORBIDDEN DESERT!

Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Toddler Tango

You and your toddler will love this engaging story time designed to inspire creativity with lots of ooey, gooey sensory play and art experiences. This is a messy affair, so wear some old clothes.


Family Search: A Free & Dynamic Genealogy Website

When: Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Where: Anderson Public Library at Miami Room

FamilySearch is a great place to begin researching your family tree. The site is free and easy to use! Join us as we explore many of the ins and outs of a marvelous resource that is available to anyone with access to the Internet.
