Mambo extended Santuri family,

We hope you’re all healthy and happy, here are your Santuri updates for the week.

Listening sessions.
No work, no stress, just listening. We’ll be hosting a new “event series” where people can come in and do in-depth listening to specially recorded albums, EP’s & mixes. Anything that’s aurally exciting, from hyper technical music, to beautiful ambient sounds, or maybe people will want to listen to different types of mastering!

Here is a video sneak peek of our first official Listening Session with DJ Raph. We got to do some deep listening, as he played cuts from his unreleased forthcoming record "Citysynthesis", entirely made from field recordings. Speaking of field recordings, check out Sound of Nairobi. Raph is part of the team and it’s a really dope sound archive with useful resources as well.

JJ and Your Boy Oblach of Array Records recorded a thought provoking spoken word piece, on the topic of Museums, Kenyan culture, and colonialism. Make sure you check out JJ this friday afternoon, she's performing at the National Museum as part of the extended "Invisible Inventories" exhibit.

Museum Day was last week and Santuri presented its first ever interactive installation! As part of Invisible Inventories, we invited visitors to create their own beats using virtual instruments from East Africa. Using the Push 2 and Santuri’s East African Instrument Pack for Ableton, friends, strangers and even dignitaries experimented live, with the sounds of Ohangla drums (Kenya), the Zeze (Tanzania),  the Adungu and the Endere (Uganda). It was fun, so we'll probably do it again next week!

Santuri has curated an East African lineup at the request of Montreal’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival 2021. Yes, Montreal is in the french part of Canada, and yes, we know the festival name sounds italian. No, we're not going to explain... Just check out their website. The virtual performances will broadcast in June - stay tuned fam!

On another musical note - our equipment loan program is still rolling! This week DJ Mura has been having fun with the studio’s Maschine Mk3 and his Komplete Kontrol M32. Check out this video he sent us and watch him make a dope, moody beat.

On Sunday, the All Afrikan People’s Revolutionary Party hosted an International Webcast to celebrate African Liberation Day 2021. Various African and First Nations (American Indigenous) organizations spoke to commemorate the event, including Kenya’s own Revolutionary Socialist League. Inspiring to see and hear people fighting for a free Africa, by any means necessary!

Note that the Webcast starts at the 6:38 mark. The introduction is Spanish... So unless you can hablo espanol, you may want to skip it.

Heavy sounds only this week, listen at your own risk :)
Na Zala Zala by Rey Sapienz & Congo Techno Ensemble. Full album dropping in July!
WOOSH WOOSH by Mr Right (Buruklyn Boyz)
Quoios by Slikback

Haya, that’s it for now, have a good weekend everyone.
