Mambo extended Santuri family,

We hope you’re all healthy and happy, here are your Santuri updates and a slew of events for the week!

Retrospect 04.

We're happy to share a soulful tune by L3GS today! It's the second track in our Rough Cut series and it features some amazing arrangements and beautiful field recordings of Maasai and lions. L3GS made this very quickly as part of a 5 day EP challenge where they challenged themselves to make 5 tracks in 5 days.

This trio of Deejays/producers from Nairobi was started in 2013 and the three members are Gerald Gekara, Ler, and Carroll Omuom (Karrl Arcus). Check out their official releases and social media here.

They have previously won multiple Santuri beatmaking challenges in the past, so it's no surprise to us that they effortlessly come up with gems like this!

On Thursday last week, our friend from Norway Bernt Isak came by the studio! He did some work with Labdi on their joint project Unganisha, but also gave a small workshop / listening session. Producers and DJ’s got to discuss with him on the topics of electro-acoustic free-improvisation, DIY instrument design, open source music systems like Csound and COSMO, which you can check out in this video, or click the image below. It's pretty wild!
Thanks Bernt.

On Saturday in the Muringa yard (just behind Santuri studio), you can enjoy the Kaharibu Records party on the occasion of their first ever release. Expect dope Hiphop from Nairobi beatmakers and live MC's.

On different musical note, it's come to my attention that Nairobi has a lot of love for techno music. This weekend might possibly be the first daytime techno event in the city, I'm not sure. It goes down this Sunday at Bambupelo / Art shrine, from 11 am to 7pm. Free entry before 2 pm, fried fish and vegetarian friendly snacks will be available.

Shout out to electronic and experimental artist Monrhea for putting on this unique, socially distanced rave! She's known by the more adventurous Kenyan artists for hosting coding workshops and skill sharing sessions... and taking us from "tech" to "techno". Thanks Monrhea!

Retrospect is on again this Friday at Muringa! You can catch Oblach, Rabudi and their crew DJ in the yard. See photos from last week’s Retrospect below and at the top.

"RETROSPECT is a weekly house event hosted every Friday. RETROSPECT is a feeling. That Friday feeling. A place to dance and meet new faces that love good music"

Time for some shameless self promotion. Sharing my latest mix, which includes tracks from the new Moonshine mixtape, music from Budalagi, exclusive unreleased songs from Coco Em and more. It's not bad!
