First Holy Communion Celebration
Star of the Sea Second and Third Graders celebrated their First Holy Communion on Motherʻs Day, May 10, 2015.  The students also celebrated with their classmates, following our school mass, on Friday, May 15. Parents joined the students for cake in our newly renovated playground entrance.
A Message from the Principal

It is hard to believe that we are just around the corner from wrapping up another school year.  It has been an exciting and tremendous year of growth at Star of the Sea and I look forward to celebrating our students' hard work and achievements at our upcoming award ceremony on June 5 at 9 am.

May 29 will be a bitter sweet day for our upcoming graduates.  As our students anticipate exciting journeys ahead they will also say farewell to a home, of 8 years for some,  that has helped foster a solid academic, social, and spiritual foundation.

This summer, we are offering a wealth of summer school options for our Star families and community, in addition to a YMCA program that has been designed to assist you with early drop off and late pick up.  Visit our newly launched website for registration information. http://www.starofthesea.org

or feel free to contact the school office for details.

May God bless you and your families, and with the coming of Pentacost, may the holy spirit fill us with rejuvinated courage, hope, and faith in the Lord.

BIO BLITZ HIGHLIGHTS
The Star of the Sea School Bio Blitz group had an amazing time exploring the natural and cultural resources of Big Island's Volcanoes National Park May 14th-16th. To start their trip, they worked on a service project, clearing invasive ginger from native rainforest. Students also had a chance to hike on lava fields, observing first hand how pioneering  ʻōhiʻa lehua and ferns bring life to barren rock. In the Bio Blitz Student Inventories, students classified plants, arthropods and birds of the rainforest alongside scientists and alakai'i. Groups of students also participated in different Bio Blitz Public Inventories; one group investigated rainforest snails, one group successfully searched for happy face spiders, and one group discovered five species of fungus new to the park! Students also had a chance to hike the Kilauea Ike crater by day and hiked to the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater overlook to check out the glow by night!  At the Biodiversity & Cultural Festival, students made traditional Hawaiian crafts, talked to local scientists about their research, and earned their degrees from "Biodiversity University." The trip was a powerful learning experience, and all participants not only learned a lot about Hawaii's unique biodiversity but also were inspired to protect it.  Visit our website for more fantastic pictures.
