Mary Sibande is mixed media artist, who lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sibande explores the construction of identity in a postcolonial context–focused on South African society with her series "Long Live the Dead Queen".

A commentary that challenges and critiques the stereotypical depictions of black women in South Africa, she uses both sculpture and photography to bring this series to life.
