WINE MATTERS | July 2016

"The winemaking team at Overhex is young, dedicated, enthusiastic and open-minded: working with them is stimulating and satisfying. Looking at their achievements, especially with the top Survivor wines, it is clear that they have risen to the challenge of making wines which reflect their passion and commitment while at the same time addressing the demands and constraints of the market.”
– MICHAEL FRIDJHON (WINE JUDGE)

VINTAGE 2016 – TURNING CHALLENGE INTO OPPORTUNITY

No doubt about it: 2016 was one of the driest growing seasons in many years, posing challenges to viticulturists and winemakers alike.

However, at Overhex timeous intervention in the vineyards saw to it that the harvest, albeit smaller, was of great quality. In the cellar innovative techniques countered potential negatives such as lower sugar and acid levels, resulting in wines of exceptional flavour and good structure.

SURVIVOR OFFSPRING:
VIBRANT WINES WITH A STORY TO TELL
Inspired by the success of our Survivor range, Overhex recently launched an exciting sub-brand, Survivor Offspring. As the name implies, the concept is based on the charming story of Survivor, the Nguni cow.
Her calves (or ‘Offspring’) have all gone looking for greener pastures now, carrying their mother’s adventurous spirit with them, wherever they roam.
The above pictures were taken at DB Rust's farm in the Swartland this month and shows the natural beauty of the Cape winelands during winter.
OFFSPRING WINES NOW LISTED AT
TESCO, UK & COLRUYT, BELGIUM
Survivor Offspring will be on shelves at Tesco in the UK and Colruyt in Belgium from September 2016. In conjunction with the launch of these wines at Tesco we will be running an exciting competition whereby two lucky winners will each win a five-day trip for two to South Africa.

The prize includes return flights, car hire, breakfast daily, accommodation for three nights in Cape Town and two nights in Hermanus, breakfast daily, dinner at an Eat Out Top 10 restaurant as well as lunch and a private winetasting at Overhex Winery and Bistro with our winemaker.
BLENDING THE NEW VINTAGES

This past month saw the winemaking team and renowned wine judge Michael Fridjhon taste, discuss and blend the upcoming vintages of our multi award-winning Survivor range.

We are very excited about the new vintages which show balance, consistency and quality. Our wine will be bottled and labelled in this month, ready for release in August. Keep an eye on our social channels for up to date news.
