WINE MATTERS | February 2017

Happiness is a harvest in full swing and I’m pleased to report that at the time of writing some 10% of our projected grape crop has already reached our cellars – in prime condition and showing great potential!
– GERHARD VAN DER WATH (MANAGING DIRECTOR)

HIGH HOPES FOR 2017 HARVEST

Although indications are that the overall 2017 crop will be 5% smaller than that of 2016 we at Overhex are confident that the quality of our grapes will ensure a great vintage. The projected drop in volume is mainly ascribed to drought conditions the levels of major irrigation dams in the larger production areas are significantly lower than last year this time. Approximately 10% of our projected intake of grapes have already entered our cellars and these include Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Pinot Noir for the production of white wine and rosé. A most positive factor has been the moderate to cool night temperatures experienced in almost all our production areas; this will undoubtedly contribute to both quality and quantity.
