Garden News

Last week was a very busy harvesting week.  We harvested broccoli, kale, cabbage and lots of onions.  The onions have formed bulbs now and they are tender and sweet.  They are so good to enjoy in a summer dish.

I knew we had harvested a lot but was still surprised when we added it all up - 343 pounds for one day!  That is always an exciting moment when we add it up and we can see the result.  So far this year the garden has produced 1,116 pounds!  We are thankful and I know our ministry partners are as well.

Speaking of thanks.  This week we would like to say thank you to Pete and Libby Newton who donated many tobacco stakes for tomatoes in the garden.  Also, a special thank you to Nell Critcher for donating trash cans for the garden.  We appreciate both gifts and will use them well.

See you in the garden!

Activities for community garden this weekend:
1.  Forecast calls for thunderstorms Friday and Saturday afternoon so unsure how wet the garden will be
2.  If we are able we will plant additional squash and zucchini
3.  We will be harvesting cabbage and broccoli and various greens, maybe squash and zucchini
4.  We will thin and fertilize okra
5. We will likely selectively harvest some potatoes
