So fresh and so clean clean

Imagine: It's 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30. You're dressed in your most pristine white garments. Everything smells like rosé and gardenias. As you indulge in an endless supply of gourmet food, delicious wine, and good times, you say to yourself, "There's no place like Kellogg."

Did we just describe your deepest fantasy? Or did we not-so-secretly promote Dîner en Blanc, one of Cork & Screw's most anticipated events of the year? Time will tell. Also, Dîner en Blanc tickets go on sale today at 12:15 p.m. Get yours here.

Here comes the rain again

Today brings some morning showers and a decent high of 62°F (17°C). You know all that money you've been saving for a rainy day? Use it to buy yourself something nice and random on Amazon.

Kellogg Startup Spotlight: Cariset

Ladies, are you still in search of the perfect backpack to make your day more seamless? Enter Cariset, the company aiming to change the world one bag at a time. We spoke to Cariset co-founders Allison Brown, Cara Maresca, and (Daybreak staffer) Kristina Moore to learn more about their venture.

What is Cariset?

Cariset is on a mission to build a better backpack for women. We designed our first product, the Everyday backpack, to make women look effortlessly put-together while still fitting everything they need for their day.

How’d you come up with the idea?

We rediscovered our love for backpacks when we got to Kellogg. Sick of carrying a combo of painful totes and Lululemon shopping bags, we looked everywhere for a backpack we’d be equally happy carrying to the office, out to dinner, or to the gym. None fit the bill. So we built our own. It started with cardboard cutouts on Allison’s apartment floor. Seven prototypes later, here we are!

What’s been the hardest part?

Translating our vision of what we wanted this bag to look like into a 3D object was no joke. We’ve been lucky to have the guidance of several Kellogg professors, alums, and outside advisers with retail and sourcing experience. We couldn’t have done it without them.

What about the most fun?

Building a brand voice and product that resonates with people. There is no better feeling in the world than having a woman stop you on the street and ask where you got your backpack or having women reach out on Instagram to say, "I’m facing this exact problem!"

How can I support Cariset?

We’re now taking orders for our first production run, and we want to make sure our supportive Kellogg classmates get first dibs! If you like what you see here, use code KELLOGG for a special discounted price of $225 (40% off). The offer ends on May 19. Backpacks will ship this fall. Not ready to purchase but still want to help out? We’d be so grateful if you would:

  • Give us some love on social media! Tell your friends about our quest for #betterbackpacks, and don’t forget to tag @carisetbackpacks. Feel free to share the discount while it lasts!

  • Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date (and check out our weekly wellness series!).

Anything else we should know?

We’ll be hanging out today in the Innovation Lab from 10-11:45 a.m. and at Inspiring Grounds from 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Stop by to see the backpack in person! We can't thank you enough for your support!

We still want you!

Are you looking for a way to use your talents to impact the Kellogg community? Do you want to help your classmates make sense of their lives first thing in the morning? If so, then you and Daybreak just might be perfect for each other. Slide into our DMs with your application by this Friday, and we could be going steady before you know it.
