Still pretty jealous about the Spring Break desert party in Morocco, but at least it's the weekend! Photo cred: Oscar Dang

...the third one ducks.

If you're anything like us, the first week of class and this lovely dose of winter weather in April has been a rude awakening from Spring Break - some might say a smack in the face.

Luckily, it's the weekend, and that means plenty of time to catch up with your Kellogg buds, go grocery shopping (check out this list of best products from TJ's to get you started), finish that final GIM project (whoops), get a head start on spring cleaning (Apartment Therapy can help you get it done in 10 days or less), or if we're being honest, burn through our Netflix queue

Feeling extra motivated? Daybreak's got a roundup of some local road races (and best brunch spots to hit after) to help you set and meet your fitness goals.

April (snow) showers bring May flowers.

Today's high is a balmy 37°F (2°C) and a low of 21°F (-6°C). It'll stay that way all weekend, with another round of snow in the forecast for Sunday night and Monday morning. On the bright side, we're jamming out to this Beat the Winter Blues playlist on Spotify. Check it out if you're in need of a musical pick-me-up.

Week One: That's a Wrap

  • Can you hear me now? Hear from Kenneth Meyers ('94), U.S. Cellular President and CEO, as part of the Lavin Bernick Executive Chats. (12:15 p.m., 2420A&B) RSVP here

Couch to...

With spring and summer in our sights, it means the road race scene in Chicago is heating up. Lace up your favorite pair of sneakers, grab a running buddy, and hit the pavement (or take charge of the all-important post-race brunch reservation). You can set a distance goal using the Nike+Run Club App or use a tried and true race plan from guru Hal Higdon. Regardless of your fitness level, there's a race for you:

  • 5K: Race to Wrigley (May 6th, 8:00 a.m.) winds through Lakeview and ends under the Cubs marquee. Can you say Insta-bait? Registration here
  • 5 miles: Skipping the Kellogg Derby buses? Cinco de Miler (May 5, 8:30 a.m.) offers breakfast tacos, horchata, and a free beer to all finishers. Not to mention, the post-race party features a mechanical bull, human foosball and Lucha Libre wrestling matches. Registration here
  • 10 miles: Take in the lake front and celebrate Memorial Day with a post-race tailgate at the Soldiers Field 10 Mile race (May 26, 7:00 a.m.). Registration here
  • Half Marathon (13.1 miles): The Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 10K (May 18, 7:00 a.m.) ends in Maggie Daley Park with a breakfast buffet and Lagunitas beer to help you recover after the race. There are also races (distances vary by age) for Kellogg kids (ages 12 and under). Registration here.
  • Other: Fleet Feet Sports has a round-up of every race in the area if you're still in the market for a finish line to cross before your summer internship starts.

Weekend Pro Tip

This weekend marks the 5th annual Firkin Beer Festival. Head down to Headquarters Beercade to find out WTF a firkin is (spoiler alert: it's a small cask for beer brewing) and sample one-off, small batch brews from more than 40 breweries. Tickets $10 - $40. Tasting starts at noon on Sunday.
