Welcome to Sherford's July newsletter
It has been a busy couple of months at Sherford, with the construction works continuing to gather pace as we look forward to welcoming the first residents early next year. It is an exciting time for the new community, with work now officially starting on the very first homes. It's a monumental step in the journey of Sherford, and a testament to the hard work and planning by many over the last two decades.

This month also sees the release of our report, Community Spirit in the South West, which was commissioned to get a picture of how local people view life in the region, as well as their feelings towards their local communities. You can find out more about our discoveries by reading this newsletter.

Work at Sherford is continuing to progress well and on schedule, and you can continue to stay up to date with the latest news and information, by visiting www.sherford.org
FIRST BRICK MARKS OFFICIAL START OF HOME BUILD AT SHERFORD

Building work has now officially started on the first Sherford homes, and alongside members of the local authorities and the Homes and Communities Agency, we visited the site to help place the very first brick. With 5,500 homes planned for Sherford, an engraved brick featuring the start date of the home build – July 2016 – was placed by key figures responsible for the community, which is set to be visible for the lifetime of the town.
COMMUNITY SPIRIT IN THE SOUTH WEST

The South West is home to communities of all shapes and sizes, and Sherford is set to be a major new addition. The Sherford Consortium wanted to understand more about life within the region’s existing communities, get their advice on creating a cohesive and happy community, and share the findings with you.

To get a picture of how people in the South West view life in their region and their feelings towards the communities they are part of, 1,000 adults were polled and a selection of community experts interviewed to form the ‘Community Spirit in the South West’ report.

Click here for a preview of what the report covers, and please visit the website next week when it will available to read and download.
SPONSORING LOCAL SPORTING TALENT

Sherford is set to be an integral part of the local area, including the surrounding communities, and is a town being built by local businesses and people. That’s why we have chosen to sponsor Elburton Villa Football Club, a club which brings together people of all ages, and can trace its roots back to the 1950s. You will soon see the Sherford logo in the match programmes, as well as on the pitch.

In the spirit of Sherford’s construction, we are also sponsoring the creation of a new mini soccer pitch at the club for the next generation of budding football players. Elburton Football Club is run solely by volunteers from the local community, and we are proud to be associated with one of the most popular local clubs.
SHERFORD FROM THE SKIES

Head over to our YouTube channel to watch the latest drone footage captured from the development. Providing you with first hand footage of the works taken from the skies, it also showcases the true scale of the first build phase, as well as the astounding progress made in just a few months. Keep checking our YouTube channel, where more footage will be posted throughout the construction process. Watch the drone footage here
