"The Taste of Success" was the theme of FoodProWest 2015. With that being said we many successes over the two days at the Buyer's Day, Conference, and Gala and Awards. 
We're excited to announce our new Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Buyer's Day

The BCFPA once again partnered with the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada to host another jam packed Buyers Day event on June 17, 2015. There were over 30 Buyers from the United States, China, Japan, Korea, India, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore, in addition to more than 20 domestic buyers. Our exhibitors had their booths set up to showcase their products to buyers who toured the exhibit and inquired about their products. Choices CEO Ishkander Ahmed also delivered an intersting keynote, sharing "The Choices Story." 


This year's conference was filled with some dynamic speakers covering a variety of different topics that are trending in the food industry.

Peter Chapman; Sponsored by SGS Canada Inc., Peter shared valuable insight for small and mid-sized processors on how to improve their ability to get listed at retail, and to get your products from the store shelves into the shopping cart!
JP Gervais; Farm Credit Canada’s Chief Economist shared his insights on the challenges and growth opportunities for food processors by discussing the 2015 economic environment in Canada and providing an economic outlook.
Lionel Wilson; In his New Health Revolution seminar, Lionel Wilson explained the growing market forces and why and how they are changing. He reviewed the latest health, marketing, food and beverage trends and their related opportunities.
Grant Thornton Panel Discussion:  Innovation in the Food Industry: Our panel of BC food company leaders engaged in a provocative and insightful discussion on what the term “innovation” means to them, the role it plays in the success of their organization, the risks and rewards, and the need for innovation in the Food & Beverage sector. 
Bank of Montreal Accessing Capital for your Business: This informative two part segment educated attendees on how to prepare to meet with lenders, including developing strong business plans and financials.  The second portion was a Panel Discussion on the different types of groups that lend or invest in the food processing sector, including traditional lending, private equity, angel investing, and event government programs and grants.

Lights. Camera. Action! Day two of FoodProWest ended off with our signature event, the Awards Gala!  The Gala was a great evening that brought the industry together to celebrate and network.  The gala was hosted by retired CFL star Angus Reid, honoured our many award nominees and winners for the year.

Product of the Year winners were determined by a panel of nine judges, who saw over 20 nominees present their products in a Dragons Den style format. Here are our winners!

Board of Directors & Executive Committee

The BC Food Processors Association ( is proud to announce five new additions to its Board of Directors, as well as a new Executive Committee.  The new Directors are Rattan Bagga (CEO, New World Foods Inc. & Everland Foods); Jo Heron (Principal, Sisu Solutions); Anne Chong Hill (President, Global Gourmet Foods Inc.); Kirk Homenick (President, Naturally Homegrown Foods/Hardbite Chips); and Christina Lui (General Manager, Fine Choice Foods).
Additionally, at its recent Annual General Meeting, the BCFPA Board of Directors also appointed a new Executive Committee.  Rick Gagner (Principal, 2plus2 Solutions) is now President and Chair; Dave Eto, (CEO, BC Dairy Association) will now serve as Past Chair; Jim Pratt (Partner, Prosnack Natural Foods) is First Vice President; Rita Cheng (President, Superior Tofu) is Second Vice President; Jozef Hubburmin (CFO, Fresh Direct Produce) is Treasurer, and David Guthrie (Partner, KPMG) is Secretary.

The BCFPA has had a long tradition of great leadership in this position and I’m looking forward to leading our Board of Directors and working closely with our CEO, James Donaldson, to support the growth of BC's largest manufacturing Industry, and being a leader and voice for Agri-Food businesses in this province." - BCFPA President and Chair, Rick Gagner.
