Early season preparation for riders, event directors and officials!

It might be January, but the NEBRA staff has been hard at work on the 2020 season. We’ve got a bunch of ‘exciting’ information for you, New England bike racers- 2020 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for New England Cycling.

Your USA Cycling Club Should Become A Member of NEBRA

As of 2019, annual dues are waived for any club that promoted a USA Cycling-permitted event in 2019 of any kind. Races, Clinics, camps and non-competetive events all count. NEBRA membership gives you a say in who sits on the board, making decisions about the future of New England bike racing, and it’s either free (if you run an event) or cheap (if you don’t). So sign up now to make your voice heard: https://www.bikereg.com/nebra-membership2

The Annual Meeting will be held at the Promoter Summit again

We had been doing the Annual Meeting for the corporation of NEBRA by conference call on the Monday night after the promoter summit. Attendance at this meeting was historically low, as was engagement, because No One Likes Conference Calls (™). This was especially ironic because attendance at the Promoter Summit the day before is good and engagement is high. So we are doing an actual in-person Annual Meeting at the summit once again this year -- Our Administrator's “State of the Nation” address will double as the Annual Meeting, where we’ll also go over some important changes to the Local Association model under USA Cycling. Of course we will do the traditional “airing of grievances” where the membership gives the board “feedback” on what they feel went poorly/swimmingly in 2019 and what they’d like to see in 2020.

*If you can’t make the Annual Meeting, we will be live streaming it*, and voting for BOD seats will be online.
(*You know how livestreams can be. We promise we will do our best!)

The Promoter Summit is Coming Up Fast

What Could be better than guzzling coffee and chomping pastries while talking about bike racing all day?! We’ve got members of the NEBRA Board, representatives from USA Cycling, Event directors, racers and officials. Plus a bunch of statistics, some big picture talk about the state of our sport, and of course all the networking opportunities you can eat. We are working on our agenda right now and will be updating speakers and topics as we approach the summit.

We Have Our Annual Board Election Happening Too

Our longest serving Board Member Lauren LeClaire is stepping down this year so we are looking for candidates interested in being a part of the NEBRA Board. There are a total of three seats on the NEBRA Board of Directors up for election this cycle, and current Board members Colin Reuter and Mike Rowell are running for reelection. Interested candidates should send a candidate statement to board@nebra.us by 1/20. We will publish all statements on the NEBRA website on 1/21, Members will receive voting instructions on 1/22, have until 1/29 to vote, and the results will be announced on 1/30. Remember that each NEBRA club gets one vote.

Our Officials Summit is moving to the Northeast Officials Symposium

For 2020 NEBRA is joining with our neighboring Local Association NYSBRA and Co-Presenting the Northeast Officials Symposium on March 14 and 15 2020 in Danbury CT.

The theme for this year is: Practical Officiating at the Local Level
We will focus on techniques that you can use to be an outstanding official at local “Grassroots” events; in other words, those “Category E” races with less than about 200 riders that take place almost every weekend somewhere near you.
Officials make all the difference in providing a great rider experience. That is what NOS 2020 is all about! Topics will include allocating resources, difficult race scenarios, and ways to handle rider issues. We welcome your suggestions and especially would like to ask you to please send us situations from your experience that we might use in the discussions.
NOS will include NEBRA-specific, NYSBRA-specific, and other LA-specific business so there will not be a separate officials-only meeting this year (e.g., in February). This is it!
We’ll be at the same Crowne Plaza in Danbury with the Advanced Officiating symposium both days in the main conference room. We will also host a New Official “C” Clinic on Saturday and a “Moto C” clinic on Sunday.
Additional details and registration via BikeReg will start rolling out in January.
