Have you ever noticed that God does not always explain himself in advance? You may think you would do a much better job at life if you had all information up front, but God disagrees. He thinks there is great value and great learning and great personal growth if you work on your skills in obedience, in listening, in dependence on him, in improvisation, in collaboration with others. All those things come with experience and learning on the journey. Enjoy the journey.
Abraham’s early life was in Ur, not far from the modern city of Basra in Iraq. God somehow came to him and asked him to make a journey of at least eight hundred miles to an unknown place in the west: “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). He didn’t argue with God, at least not right away, but loaded a caravan with his father, wife, and nephew and headed northwest.
Has your life taken some crazy twists and turns? Have you ever wondered if God was still in charge? Or what he was up to? Relax. Enjoy the journey. The grace of God will never lead you to where the power of God won’t also sustain you. He knows the true mission of your life even if you aren’t quite sure.
Abraham and Sarah lived in Canaan for 25 years before they were allowed to see God’s plans unfold.
