Soul Tend at the 2017 Bishop's Clergy Convocation 

The soul is the authentic and truest self of the institution; the source of its divine calling and character, and the protector of institutional integrity. This winter, GNJ clergy are invited to a special time of renewal, learning and fellowship at the 2017 Bishop's Clergy Convocation at the Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch. From January 23-25, 2017, attendees will hear from author, coach and consultant Susan Beaumont and enjoy a special event presented by The Music Paradigm. Share Your Hopes for A Way Forward 

All laity and clergy from GNJ are invited into a deeper conversation to develop our hopes and aspirations for the future of The United Methodist Church and send them to the Commission on the Way Forward. We will hold a gathering called Graceful Controversies on March 4, 2017, for GNJ members to identify how best we would like to see the church move forward. Overtime Pay Ruling ON HOLD 

A U.S. federal judge on Nov. 22 put a hold on a new rule making millions more Americans, including church workers, eligible for overtime pay. The move indefinitely pushes back the Dec. 1 effective date while the judge weighs a challenge to the requirement. Click here for updated critical information about this ruling. 
 

2016 Workers' Compensation Payroll Audit Forms 

Look for the customized 2016 Workers' Compensation Payroll Audit Forms which will be mailed to every church on Dec. 1 by Church Mutual. The audit covers 2016 payroll for both church and church-controlled nursery school workers. Completed audits are due Jan. 15, 2017 and are to be sent directly to Church Mutual. 6ABC Covers Neighborhood Center in Camden 

Thanksgiving is all about giving back to others. The Neighborhood Center in Camden was covered by 6ABC News on Thanksgiving day doing exactly that. Click here to read the story and watch the video. The Center is an outreach mission of the UMW's Division and part of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

WHO Welcomes Global Funding for Malaria Vaccine 

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that the world's first malaria vaccine will be rolled out in pilot projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Funding is now secured for the initial phase of the program and vaccinations are due to begin in 2018. Click here to read the news release.

Be sure to save the date for February 11, 2017 for an IGNITE Leaders Day at Calvary Korean UMC in East Brunswick, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The day will provide practical resources and tools to help students grow in their faith. Churches of any size will leave with a better understanding of youth, youth ministry in 2017, how to organize and grow a youth ministry, and how to help students grow in their faith. Water is a Human Right: Mission Agency 

The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries is hosting an awareness event about access to water and the impact of a new pipeline on an indigenous people, the Standing Rock Sioux, at 11 a.m. EST on Dec. 10 at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta. Read press release here. 
 

Church Leaders Respond to Tennessee Wildfires 

Holston Conference leaders are asking United Methodists to be prepared and patient while waiting for information about how best to help victims of a wildfire that reportedly destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses since Monday night in Gatlinburg and other parts of Sevier County, Tennessee. Collaboration Considers Global Shared Services 

The General Council on Finance and Administration plans to work with Belmont University's business college to see if shared services can be made available to United Methodists worldwide. The denomination's finance agency offers 40 shared services, such as travel and meeting planning, with the aim of reducing administrative costs. At present, these services are available to U.S. ministries, but the hope is to take them global. Read the press release here.
