Circles of Hope Helps Achieve Goals

In order to reach the goal of $12 million we need to average donations equaling $90 per worshiper, per year. More than 75 GNJ churches have already reached or exceeded that mark! Zika Vs. Malaria

News of the new Zika virus has been dominating headlines due to its connection to birth defects in infants. Both Zika and malaria are mosquito-borne diseases and our work in fighting sickness through Imagine No Malaria helps support the fight against other mosquito-borne illnesses like Zika. Conference Journals

The 2016 Conference Journal will be available for review and download on the website. If you’d like a bound, printed copy, click here to order. Printed journals are available free to all retired clergy upon request and all others for a fee of $18. No CD-ROMs will be produced this year. Deadline for ordering a hard copy journal is August 15.
A Future With Hope is the mission arm of the United Methodist Church of Greater NJ dedicated to helping families with Sandy recovery and developing Communities of Hope resourcing for our congregations.
 
As one of the last standing organizations helping those rebuild in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, A Future With Hope has rebuilt 237 homes with the help of 11,131 volunteers from 44 states, D.C., and Canada. Presently, communities such as Atlantic City, Beach Haven, Brigantine, Highlands, Long Branch, Ocean City, Toms River, and Union Beach and others have active projects in the works.

Drew University Summer Music Institute

An intensive study of the sung and spoken word of worship will be held at Drew University Theological School. The Summer Music Institute brings together musicians, pastors, and laity as well as renowned worship leaders and experts in music, movement, liturgy, and ritual from around the world. Featuring Rev. Tanya Linn Bennett, Mark Miller, and many others, you’re invited to sing, dance, praise, and eat at the table of worship. July 28-29. Click here to see schedule, speakers, and register.

Start or Grow a Campus Ministry with a Grant

Is your church near a college campus? Do you imagine starting or expanding a campus ministry and need support? GNJ’s Board of Higher Education and Ministry is offering a limited number of grants of $1,000, to help you start or grow your campus ministry. Grant money will be distributed in 2016, in time for you to welcome students to campuses for the fall semester. Click here for more information and to complete the grant application. Walk for All Ages Rescheduled to 2017

The popular “Walk For All Ages” sponsored by United Methodist Communities has been rescheduled for the Spring of 2017. The Walk, which has taken place for the past few years on the first Sunday after Labor Day in Ocean Grove, is one of the primary fundraisers for the Fellowship Fund. More details will be announced soon.

U.S. Northeast Keeps Bishops

In order to take a hard look at remaking the denomination’s map, the 2016 General Conference opted to keep the same number of U.S. bishops. Previously, United Methodists in the U.S. Northeast faced a potential reduction because of membership losses. The nine active bishops will remain at least for the next four years. The Northeastern Jurisdiction will elect two bishops when it meets July 11-15 in Lancaster, Pa. A General Conference committee will continue examining the number and boundaries of U.S. jurisdictions and episcopal areas. Click here to read more.
