Just the other day, the summer was brought back into focus for me when my son Nathan noted that in less than 4 weeks, he will return as a senior to Grove City College. I thought to myself, “What? It couldn’t be!” How fast the lazy, hazy days of summer are zipping by.
I am writing this to you as a summer “rumble strip”. While the days grow shorter and quickly pass us by, have you taken the time to enjoy the wonder of God’s creation in our Southern Region? Do you still have a long summer “bucket list” of things you hope to do and places to go?
Many of us pay too much attention to the battery life on our electronics and forget to look for indicators in our lives that we need to pause and recharge in spirit, mind and body. I want to invite each of you reading this to take your calendar for the month of August and schedule out some time to renew and recharge your life and ministry. It doesn’t need to cost a lot, nor do you need to travel far away. We are blessed across Southern New Jersey to live within miles of the shore, the bay, and Pinelands with plenty of beaches to walk on and waterways to paddle through.
For example, the other evening my wife Sandra and I were intentional and drove to one of our favorite beaches. We walked for over an hour and then stopped by an ice-cream shop to conclude our adventure. “My soul was rejoicing!” We easily could have filled the hours with chores and work that needed to be done and not make the effort to get out for the evening BUT we were both so happy that we did.
During my travels around the Southern Region, I’ve discovered so many new wonderful places to explore. I am hoping you will take time, be intentional and get out into God’s creation. If you need some ideas, you can look on a map for the Mullica, Delaware and Maurice Rivers which are all great places to kayak. The Pinelands
, the boardwalks in Atlantic City
and Ocean City
, and the promenade in Cape May
are all awaiting your trek.
As you get out and about, take a picture of some of the beauty and wonder and share it with me on Facebook or email it to me at email@example.com
. I will share these on my Facebook page.
