Hope Rises 5 Years Later 

Join congregations across GNJ remembering the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy this Sunday, Oct. 29 in a day of prayer. Resources are available for your congregation here. Pray for recovery for the estimated 2,500 homeowners that are still on the path to recovery. Pray for thanksgiving for the 12,000 volunteers who dedicated their time and talents to our recovery. 389 congregations in GNJ have participated in recovery. Click here to join us in a day of remembrance. Long Term Recovery Round Table with Mary Pat Christie 

Bobbie Ridgely and Lou Strugala from A Future With Hope joined partners in long term disaster recovery from Ocean County LTRG, New Jersey Community Capital, SBP, Camp Evans, the Affordable Housing Alliance, Housing Recovery and Resources Center and Mary Pat Christie representing the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the storm and the recovery work funded by the HHNJRF. Disaster Response 

Esperanza for Puerto Rico (Hope for Puerto Rico) 

United Methodists in GNJ have many close ties to our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico. Working with the Methodist Church in Puerto Rico we are developing special resourcing and support for those in need after Hurricane Maria. Join us for a day of Thanksgiving on Nov. 19 and engage your congregation in contributed much needed supplies.

Support Recovery Efforts

- GNJ United Methodists are encouraged to support the recent hurricane relief and recovery efforts in prayer and in action. Click here to learn more and find out ways you can help.

- The next ERT class, re-certification and initial training, will be held on Nov. 25 at the UMC of Westfield in Westfield, NJ. To learn more and register, contact Carol Brozosky.

- Disaster Response Teams are now forming for Texas next month. Any ERTs and other volunteers interested in joining or leading the Nov. teams can contact UMVIM Coordinator Brittany Rusk for specific details.

GNJ Hosts AUMCPBO Annual Meeting

GNJ hosted the annual Association of United Methodist Conference Pension and Benefits Officers (AUMCPBO) annual meeting today, Oct. 25 at Ocean Place in Long Branch, bringing together Conference Benefits Officers, Treasurers, Chairs of Boards of Pension and Health Benefits, and Conference staff to share information regarding conferences benefits plans and how they're funded. 2017 GNJ Historical Society Annual Meeting 
The GNJ Historical Society will be having its 2017 annual meeting at Dobbins Memorial UMC in Delanco on Oct. 28. Dr. Kevin Newberg, Drew University's assistant professor of Christianity will deliver the keynote. Click here for details.
 

Local Church History Contest 

The Commission on Archives and History has announced this year's Local Church History contest. Click here to learn more. The deadline for submitting a local church history is Jan. 18, 2018. 
 

Licensing School Dates for Local Pastors 

2018 Local Pastors Licensing school dates are Feb. 16-17, April 6-7, May 11-12, June 22-23. All meetings will be held at The Mission and Resource Center. Stay tuned for updates.
