Meet the Ontario Securities Commission’s new Acting Chair, Monica Kowal. Ms. Kowal was appointed to the position on November 15, 2015, following the end of Chair and CEO Howard Wetston’s term.

Ms. Kowal previously served the OSC as Vice-Chair, a position she held since July 2014 after nearly a decade of work as OSC General Counsel and an extensive career in the private sector. The Investor Office sat down with her to discuss the OSC’s priorities, the issues facing investors and the importance of considering the investor perspective.

Financial Life Stages of Older Canadians

If older Canadians could take what they know now about the financial realities of retirement and apply that knowledge earlier in life, what would they do?

Earlier this year, the Investor Office commissioned a survey of 1,500 Canadians age 50 and older to help answer this question and many others. Financial Life Stages of Older Canadians identifies the top financial concerns of Canada's older adults and examines how they are managing the main financial risks that they're facing at each stage of life.

IOSCO C8: Investment Risk Education Report

Earlier this month, members of IOSCO's Committee on Retail Investors (C8), including the OSC, participated in a panel discussion on the role that securities regulators play in investment risk education.

A holistic view of the investor experience

The Investor Office is interested in achieving better outcomes at each stage of an investor’s life – from learning about key financial concepts and investing for the first time, all the way through to life’s golden years.
