Back to School for Investors
 

As classes resume this week, investors can also take a moment to hit the books and brush up on their own investor education. This "back to school" issue of Investor News contains many resources for investors on a variety of topics, including saving for an education, to help you better mange your money.

We've put together a few ideas for investors on going "back to school" this September.

If your child is beginning or continuing post-secondary education this year, they can take payments from their RESP if one was created for them. These payments, known as educational assistance payments, are made up of the investment earnings and government grant money in the RESP. There are important rules to follow in order to qualifying for these payments. Learn more

The OSC recently announced that Neil Gross was appointed Chair of the Investor Advisory Panel (IAP), effective August 1, 2018. Mr. Gross has served on the IAP since November 2017.

The CSA published for comment Proposed National Instrument 93-102 Derivatives: Registration and Proposed Companion Policy 93-102 Derivatives: Registration. The Proposed Instrument establishes a new regime for the registration of dealers and advisers transacting in the over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives markets in Canada.

The CSA published a notice and second request for comment on Proposed National Instrument 93-101 Derivatives: Business Conduct and Proposed Companion Policy 93-101 CP Derivatives: Business Conduct. The Proposed Instrument establishes a business conduct regime for regulating dealers and advisers in over-the-counter derivatives in Canada.
