Small Business Big Bus Visit
The BID and the Ballymena Borough Chamber of Commerce and Industry are encouraging local shoppers to visit the Small Business Saturday Big Bus which is visiting the town this Friday 28th October 2016 from 10am to 1pm.
The campaign bus will be situated at Broadway and is visiting the town centre to highlight the goods and services that are available to local consumers on their doorsteps by their local retailers and businesses.  Visitors to the bus will receive a free ‘Ballymena Means Shopping’ shopping bag from the Ballymena BID.
Chris Wales, Business Development Manager Ballymena Chamber of Commerce and Industry, "It's quite a coup for Ballymena for the Small Business Saturday bus to visit our town. Ballymena is proud of the variety and number of independent retailers in the town and shopping local can only be a good thing for all!"
The Small Business Saturday initiative is the UK’s most successful small business campaign. Last year an estimated £623 million was spent with small businesses across the UK on the dedicated Small Business Saturday – up £119 million on last year and an increase in spending of 24%.
Now in its fourth year, Small Business Saturday is a UK wide small business initiative which takes place in towns throughout the UK on Saturday 3rd December 2016 and the campaign bus is touring Northern Ireland with special visits to Ballymena, Strabane and Coleraine.  The bus will host workshops and seminars at each of its destinations.

Ballymena Discount Day
As you may or may not know, Thursday 3rd November is Ballymena Discount Day. With fantastic reductions throughout the town, late night shopping and discounted parking, we’re expecting the town to be incredibly busy.
In addition to letting you know what the BID has been up to, we are asking for some giveaways/vouchers for the Cool FM Road Show which is coming to town. So for your business, it could be a win win! If you have something you are happy to part with, Cool FM’s very own Pete Snodden will be giving you a big shout out!
The Road Show will be at the bandstand from 2pm to 4pm and with interviews and mentions happening throughout the day as well as their promo girls handing out goodies including with our fabulous ‘Ballymena Means Shopping’ bags it’s going to be mighty craic all afternoon.
For those marketeers among you, we’ll have some advertising on Q Radio, UTV as well as the bus adverts ensuring as many folk as possible know about Ballymena Discount Day. There’ll be social media too on Twitter and our new Facebook page ‘Ballymena Means’.
Throughout the town we’ll have musicians and entertainment as well as the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, taking a walk through the town with Chamber’s President Ronan McCann visiting the odd business here and there.
So, get prepared for a busy day on Thursday 3rd November and keep in touch if there’s anything you’d like us to put on our social media. Make sure to like and share our Ballymena Means Facebook page and message us via social media with pictures and info of any promotions you are running.

New Chairman
Martin North, Ballymena’s Fairhill Shopping Centre General Manager, has assumed the appointment of Chairman of the Ballymena Business Improvement District (BID) at their recent Annual General Meeting earlier this month.
With a wealth of experience in property and retail management, Mr North brings his exceptional expertise to the BID which is now in its second year.
On being appointed, Martin North thanked his predecessor, Terry Robb, for “his hard work over the challenging first year and that the BID was now on a sound footing which was a testament to Terry’s hard work and leadership.”
The new chairman’s tenure is for two years and Martin North hopes to move the BID forward over this period, “I’ve been in Centre Management at Fairhill since 2005, before that I was involved with both Connswater and Forestside shopping centres. I have also worked locally with several organisations for over 10 years which focused on promoting safety and cleanliness of the town and this appointment was a great opportunity to go that bit further.
"I'm delighted to be a part of Northern Ireland's first ever business improvement district and the possibilities and potential for Ballymena are endless. Working with my colleagues on the Board and Alison Moore the BID manager, together we will steer the Board and ultimately the BID to an even better footing. We can show, not only the residents of Ballymena and outlying areas, but the rest of Northern Ireland what a great town Ballymena is and what it means to live, shop, work and be a part of a lively and fantastic destination."
Rockspring UK, landlords of the Fairhill Shopping Centre, having acquired the centre over a year ago, fully support Mr North's decision to accept this appointment.
Alison Moore, Ballymena BID Manager, said; “The BID is very much looking forward to a good second year under Martin North’s leadership. By working together in the BID will we achieve what the District has set out to do. Ballymena has all the hallmarks and right ingredients to make it a very successful BID.”
