Schools for Climate Action is a non-partisan, grassroots, youth-adult campaign with a mission to empower schools to speak up for climate action. They advocate for elected officials to combat the climate crisis in order to protect current and future generations. Their H.Res.975 - Expressing the mental health impacts of recurrent climate-related disasters on youth, has over 35 cosponsors. ecoAmerica and and the American Psychological Association’s Mental Health and Our Changing Climate Report was specifically cited as supporting the rationale. The American Public Health Association’s Katherine Catalano joined ecoAmerica’s Nicole Hill, MPH, and Jennifer Giordano to record a special episode exploring the findings from the latest American Climate Perspectives Survey and why the report is important for public health.

In 1991, over 1,000 people gathered in Washington, DC from 50 states for the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit. The Summit, hosted by the United Church of Christ resulted in the 17 Principles of Environmental Justice and redefined the environmental movement. Thirty-one years later, due to the advocacy work of WI Green Muslims and others, Wisconsin opened a state Environmental Justice office earlier this year. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) approved divestment. By a 340-41 margin, commissioners to the 225th General Assembly voted to place five energy companies — Chevron, ExxonMobil, Marathon Petroleum, Phillips 66, and Valero Energy — on the General Assembly Divestment/Proscription List “until their actions comply with the General Assembly’s established criteria.”

To support fair and inclusive transitions, ICLEI collaborated with cities from different world regions under the Urban Transitions Alliance project to create a methodology that allows mapping the social equity outcomes of local sustainability plans across three dimensions: access, participation, and opportunity. This guidebook aims to provide insights and recommendations for city practitioners to better understand and unpack what social equity means for sustainability programs at the local level.
