DFEL  Newsletter Spring 2019

Hello!  Already the spring flowers are starting to appear and the days are getting longer.  I'm sure I'm not alone wondering at the speed the years seem to pass by these days!

Our big challenge and opportunity this year is making sure that dementia is firmly embedded in the East Lothian Integrated Joint Board Strategic Plan. The Plan spells out the vision for health, care and value for money in East Lothian and some big changes are proposed, including re-provisioning services in Musselburgh, North Berwick and Dunbar. The draft strategy focusses on helping people stay active, healthy and living at home longer, with better and more coordinated services.

You can make your comment until 28th February here: https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/adult-wellbeing/draft-ijb-strategic-plan-2019-2022-consultation/consult_view/ But don't worry if you can't respond now, we'll keep talking about it.

Dementia is in the plan as a 'golden thread' so we will be working with you to make sure that people who live with dementia - people with dementia, carer-partners and family and friends - are fully involved and get the best outcomes we possibly can.  We're starting to weave our thread with a conversation  with Queen Margaret's University and the Carers Reference Group about dementia and Meeting Centres. In March Dr Shirley Evans will be back for our second workshop on Meeting Centres and we'll be hearing about Kirrie Connections and Dementia Friendly Angus.

We want people to know what life is like if you live with dementia and what needs to change. Dates of meetings and events are below.  Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved or find out more.

Other plans include new Friendship Groups, work with schools and new friends; Dementia Friendly Troon, Dementia Friendly Sheridan in Wyoming and Dementia Friendly Powys all want to get to know us. Watch out for blogs on the website.

DFEL is a community, a network of people who come together because we care.   Thank you for all you do and your support.

Cheers,

Sue

Information & Dementia

There's  a huge amount of information about dementia, services and all the other things we need to know and it grows and changes all the time. Getting good quality information when you need it is not easy.   The Life Changes Trust and local carers worked on this last year and we want to take their work further. If you're interested in helping, let us know.
