DFEL NEWSLETTER
JULY/AUGUST  2018

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go, as we are, and not be questioned.” Maya Angelou

What a summer! It's been quite a run of sun and my garden is definitely ready for the rain.

We’ve been busy! We had a really great session with Kevin from Artlink at Cockenzie House and Gardens who helped us plan the Community Sensory Garden. Simon Fairnie talked about the Musselburgh Trams, bringing back many memories and stories. In Haddington we worked out a list of things we want to do over the next few months.

We also welcomed Lingo Flamingo for an Italian Lunch and managed a live link to Yorkshire as part of our Digital Dining project with DEEP and Cianalas DFC on Harris. More link ups are planned!

Dementia Awareness Week we were out and about at North Berwick's Community Day and wrote a blog for Carers Week.  I also attended the East Lothian Partnership.

Coming up, Jacqui & her team from the Dunbar Fashion School are with us in Dunbar on 20th July. Cockenzie House on 25th July we’ll be doing some work on the history of the House and linking up with chums on Harris.  North Berwick we’ll be doing New Age Kurling and watch this space for Haddington...

Looking further ahead in Dunbar we’re planning a bit of a do on 11th September at Dunbar Leisure Pool; music, dancing and a chance for a swim or gym session. If you can help, please get in touch. We're planning our DFEL Gathering with TIDE and DEEP in October and  Life Story Training in November and plans are afoot for Tranent and Pencaitland too.

This Newsletter is moving to quarterly, but a monthly version goes out to people living with dementia and care-partners with updates for their area. If you are living with dementia and want a monthly copy, please let me know.

Maggie has designed us a lovely summary of our work this year - click here to see it. It outlines our 2 main programmes - Living Not Existing and Made Here By Us and the other work we do.  Enjoy!

Please get in touch if you want to know more, comment, get involved, whatever!

Cheers,

Sue
