Welcome to the first Newsletter of 2020.  What weather! I hope you're dry and warm.

Meeting Centres -  We're working with Musselburgh Health & Well Being Group to set up East Lothian's first Meeting Centre. The Stakeholder Meeting in February showed a lot of community support and energy. We next meet 24th March to set up working groups. Get in touch for info. Read the blog HERE.

Friendship Groups are keeping busy. If you have dementia or care for or support someone with dementia  you are very welcome to join us. See the DFEL Facebook Page for information HERE.

NEW!! What Keeps is Sharp? - Professor Alan Gow from the Ageing Lab at Heriot-Watt University will be giving tips for  keeping our brains sharp - whatever age we are.  Friday 3rd April, 10.30 - 1pm. This is the first of a series of monthly talks at  East Lothian Community Hospital in the Community Hall.  See how to book below.

Life Changes Trust - Community & dementia, creating better lives in Edinburgh & Lothians - Save the date -  23rd April at Murrayfield. Watch out for information.

DEEP Gathering - Book now for Dundee, April 27 & 28. Details below. 

Dementia Friendly Yoga - Melanie Cook from MelaYoga and I are developing training courses so everyone can benefit from Yoga. Our  Yoga Teachers course will launch in March, courses starting this autumn. We're also developing training for people with dementia, carers, activities coordinators and paid carers. If you're interested, please get in touch. 

Newsletters -  Newsletters are now quarterly, but if you have dementia or are a carer, you can get a monthly letter sent direct to your letter box or e mail, just ask.

HADDINGTON  1st Tuesday of the month. Maitlandfield House Hotel. 10.30am  - 12.
In January, Alan Borrowman from Solicitors for Older People in Scotland gave a very interesting talk about all things legal. We visit the new Community Hospital on 3rd March (meet in the hospital foyer). April 7th, we welcome Tesco's Community Champion. 

TRANENT 3rd Thursday of the month, The Fraser Centre.  10.30 - 12 
We're now meeting in the Fraser Centre and working with Lucy Schofield from Tranent Regeneration bringing Tranent's history to life. And we're joining up with other groups so you have great choices.

DUNBAR   3rd Friday of the month, Royal MackIntosh Hotel, 10.30am - 12 
This group is seriously social, we like nothing better than a chat. Join us on March 20th for a film and talk about the Antarctic. 

COCKENZIE  Last Wednesday &  second Wednesday of the month,  Cockenzie House & Gardens.  10am - 12 noon. 
We're not always in the same room so watch out for info. We're planning events and a local history project, plus a craft corner is evolving! Bring your needles, 
wool, whatever.


MUSSELBURGH We're working with the Musselburgh Health & Well Being Group to make communities better places for people with dementia and carers. In February, an enthusiastic stakeholder meeting gave overwhelming  support to start planning a Meeting Centre. You can read a blog about the workshop HERE.

We meet again on 24th March with Dr Shirley Evans from the UK Meeting Centres Support Programme and Graham Galloway from Kirrie Connections. Read more here:  If you're interested, get in touch.

DUNBAR-  People tell us there's a need for a Meeting Centre and Dunbar Grammar School sees big benefits for pupils of making it inter-generational. We'll be discussing next steps with the Dunbar Health & Well Being Group. 

FA'SIDE - We're joining up with other groups at the Fraser Centre so you get the best choices and support. We're talking with the Fa'side Health and Well Being Group about becoming a Dementia Friendly Community, including primary care, day centres, schools and the wider community.

NORTH BERWICK COASTAL - local carers, people with dementia and care at home providers met with the Health and Well Being Group to talk about how communities support people living with dementia. Watch this space!

COCKENZIE, POST SETON & GOSFORD & HADDINGTON - We're getting to meetings when we can! Plans are afoot...


Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project - Scottish  Gathering, 27th & 28th April in Dundee. People with dementia and carers supporting them can get assistance with travel costs.
