DFEL:  Welcome to 2019!

Hello! A belated but very sincere Happy New Year to you and yours. I hope it brings healthy, happy and laughter filled moments, and lots of them.

I'm starting 2019 with an attitude of gratitude and a big thank you to everyone who helped us achieve so much in  2018. Thank you, without you, there's no point.

Our priorities are set by people living with dementia - that's people with dementia, care-parters, family and friends. This year we'll be working to ensure that people living with dementia are:

  • connected to their community
  • able to speak openly about life with dementia
  • spending time with people ‘in the same boat’ for fun and support
  • able to access support beyond the one year of PDS
  • able to get better information
  • able to have more open communication with service providers, including round diagnosis and information.

We've got a good framework for change. Dementia is a 'golden thread' in the Integrated Board Strategy and we're starting to weave dementia in via the Carers Strategy Action Plan and community conversations about Meeting Centres. These have already raised clear messages that we must  join up better and support people through dementia, not just the first year and to build on and value what we already have in place.   Thank you to the Friendship Groups, Area Partnerships, Community Councils, schools, Rotary and local groups and churches who've joined us. You can read more on our blog here: http:/https://dfel.org.uk/blog/looking-ahead-to-2019//

DFEL will be changing too. If you want to get involved in any aspects of our work or want to find out more, please get in touch!

Thank you again and here's to fulfilling our potential for 2019!

Cheers,

Sue

WHAT'S ON IN EAST LOTHIAN

'What's On' is on hold whilst we work out how best to join up with others. Some communities are starting to develop their own lists and the Health & Social Care Partnership is looking at this too. We don't want to duplicate work. Plus Kath who does all the hard work is out of action for a while. 'What's On' started as a handful of activities at the end of the newsletter, it's now a very long list! If you've any ideas about how best to keep you informed, please let us know.
