WINTER GATHERING 2019
Hello!
The DFEL Gathering is on Tuesday 26th November, 10am - 3.00/3.30pm at the Maitlandfield House Hotel, 24 Sidegate, Haddington. Map here.
The Gathering is a great place to share ideas and stories. People living with dementia (carers and people with dementia), community organisations and activists and services and decision makers come together to meet friends old and new, share ideas and learning and change the world together. It's friendly, informal and free. Sign up for The Gathering HERE.
We start with a cuppa and chat from 9.30 and from 10am, we talk about the things that matter to us and the changes that will make our lives better.
During the day, Anne Traill and the Haddington Singing Group will be leading singing for everyone and Emma Mackenzie will be running a taster session on drawing and mindfulness.
Our hot topics for conversations are
- Carers - led by Anne Bisset, Moyra Birnie & Alison Reynolds who organised East Lothian's first event run by carers for carers. You can read about the Carers Conference HERE.
- Transport - sharing experiences and finding solutions with Andrew McLellan, East Lothian Council, Keith Fisken, SESTrans, Michael Huddleston from Alzheimers Scotland & Andy Hyde, Go Upstream.
- Information - led by Agnes Houston MBE & Dr Julie Watson from Edinburgh University, based round their research.
We are also delighted to welcome people from 2 exciting new Life Changes Trust projects that are working in East Lothian and across Scotland.
Karen Barrie & Lorna Hill will be with us from bold. Bold brings together different types of leader on an equal footing and provides free leadership development opportunities across Scotland. Bold leaders can expect to try things out and learn from each other and by doing things. They can expect to form lasting, supportive relationships, make a difference and have fun . bold is running a taste of leadership in East Lothian on 27th November at the Carberry Tower Hotel.
Michael McMahon & Adam Huntley work with About dementia, a national forum bringing people together around issues that matter to people with dementia and unpaid carers and affect their daily lives. About Dementia's aim is to improve Scottish policy and practice locally and nationally. Michael and Adam are looking for examples of good practice and will advocate for changes that benefit people living with dementia. About Dementia's Home and Housing Forum meets in East Lothian on 28th November.
About Dementia and BOLD will be working together closely over the five years of each project.
So lots of interesting and different ways to get involved. Hope to see you soon!
Here's to Living and not Existing!
Take care
Cheers,
Sue

bold & About Dementia
BOLD is funded by the Life Changes Trust. BOLD recognises that a large number of new leaders of all ages and from all walks of life, including people living with dementia, are already finding their place in the 'dementia world'.
The project brings together these different types of leader and organises leadership development opportunities. They support leaders using creative arts-based methods, so leaders can learn from each other, form enduring supportive relationships, and have fun. Click here to visit their website for more information about how to be involved.
