YOUR IMPACT REPORT: Small lessons = BIG effects
Rosario: Before I did not understand when teachers of my children spoke to me, but now I understand more. When I pick them up early I tell the teacher they have an appointment.
Omar: At Open Door I learned about percentages. Now when I go to the store I know how to work them. Before if I saw 10% off, I thought 10% should be a low price but now I understand.
Wondering what our subject line is about? Watch this 2-minute video from our friends at Room to Read and try taking the "Do Not Read This" challenge!

Now think about everything that you read in a single day. Chances are, you probably don't even realize all of the routine things that require literacy. If you're literate, you just do it without a second thought.
But sometimes the little things are the big things.

When you're just developing literacy skills or learning to speak and understand a new language, things like scanning websites or reading prescription labels can feel like huge obstacles. Thus, mastering these tasks (or developing the skills to do so), can be incredibly positive and empowering. Above, our Open Door Learning Center students share some of the things they've learned in class, and explain how these things affect their everyday life.
